Instructions for modifying employee status and granting annual increases for employees who obtain new university qualifications
issued by the President of the University, in accordance with the provisions of Article (15) of the Employees Bylaw No. (2) for the year 2012, applicable at the American University in Madaba
First: These instructions shall be named "Instructions for Modifying Employee Status and Granting Annual Increases for Employees Obtaining New University Qualifications," and shall go into effect as of 1/1/2021
Second: The following words and phrases shall have, wherever they appear in these bylaws, their specified meanings unless otherwise indicated in context:

Third:

Based on a recommendation from the committee, the President may decide to modify the employee's status upon obtaining a new university qualification. This modification includes adjusting their salary and grade to the salary level allocated for the obtained university qualification.

If the employee's salary or grade is equal to or higher than the allocated salary or grade, it is allowed to grant him the following additional annual increases by decision of the President, based on a recommendation from the committee:

One annual increase if the new university qualification obtained by the employee is a Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent).

Two annual increases if the new university qualification obtained by the employee is a Master's degree. However, if the employee has previously received one annual increase under the provisions of paragraph (1) of this article, in this case, the employee will be given only one additional annual increase.

Three annual increases if the new university qualification obtained by the employee is a Ph.D. However, if the employee has previously received the increase or the two increases mentioned in paragraphs (1) and (2) of this article, in this case, the difference in the number of increases will be given, provided that it does not exceed three annual increases.
Fourth: Modifying the employees’ status or granting them additional annual increases should not result in their promotion to a higher grade or transfer to a higher category within the grade. In such cases, the modification of the employee's status or the granting of annual increases will be postponed until after the promotion or transfer has taken place.
Fifth: Modifying the employees’ status or granting them additional annual increases does not affect the due date of their annual increase.
Sixth: The following conditions are required for modifying the employee's position or granting additional annual increases.

The new university qualification obtained by the employee should be in the field of his/her work.

The university where the employee obtained the new university qualification should be recognized and accredited.

The employee should have obtained prior written approval from the President, allowing him/her to pursue his/her studies.

The employee should not have received any disciplinary warning within a year prior to obtaining the new university qualification or any more severe disciplinary penalty within two years of obtaining the new university qualification.
Seventh: The President has the authority to decide on cases not specified in these instructions, based on a recommendation from the committee.
