During our class, we will be exploring the basic elemental language of cinema to see how classic and contemporary filmmakers from all over the world speak this universal language. By dissecting their work, we will examine which tools and techniques they use to communicate their ideas as effectively as possible and apply that knowledge to our collaborative group exercises where you get to make your own films. Design and Visual Communication Program Learning Outcomes

Student learning outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. By the time of graduation, the Design and Visual Communication Department's program must enable students to attain an ability to:

  • PLO1:  Analyze, synthesize, and utilize design processes and strategies from concept to delivery that leads to creatively solving communication problems.
  • PLO2: Demonstrate and utilize relevant applications of tools and technology in the creation, reproduction, and distribution of visual messages.
  • PLO3: Demonstrate critical thinking skills including the ability to distinguish between and use rational, intuitive, and critical thinking processes and to construct meaning using visual information.
  • PLO4:  Demonstrate fluency in the visual vocabulary and technical skills relevant to visual communication design within a collaborative work environment.
