This course is intended to cover the fundamental aspects of biotechnology and its new direction in the medicine. It is an introduction to genetic manipulation, recombinant DNA technology and its use to produce genetically engineering plants and animals, production of recombinant therapeutics (proteins), microbial biotechnology, the use of PCR to identify the presence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Moreover, the course focuses on the use of DNA fingerprinting, forensic analysis, medical biotechnology and biomedicine and the ethical concepts in biotechnology.
